Crystal's Knitting Blog

A record of my successes and failures (frog it!) as a knitter. I've got a lot to learn but I'm not doing too bad ;-)

No I didn't abandon my knitting blog :-) I just haven't been knitting much.Granny was on hospice and passed away last year and since then we've been living at my Mother and Father In-Law's house, which has not been pleasant (to put it politely).

That beautiful charcoal gray BBR wool yarn? yea... I never did make it into longies for Kairi, she potty trained before I could finish them. Then I was going to make them into longies for Gavin, but before I finished it we switched to Fuzzi Bunz diapers, so we didn't need longies anymore, plus I just couldn't get into knitting...stress, depression, kids climbing all over me.

Well,I just bought the Wonderful Wallaby pattern, and thought I might use the BBR on that. Nope, I'd need at least one more skein, and hat's not going to happen, since I don't want to mix dye lots.

So, I'm thinking of making a scarf and hat for Gavin, since it is the weather for it and that should be reasonably easy. Then when we have more money (after we've moved) I'll make sweaters for the kids :)

I finally finished the Panta that was supposed to be Granny's christmas present! lol

Kairi wants me to make her one next and I think I have enough of the wool left to make it out of the same color!

Next up: New pair of longies for Gavin! I'm using the gray wool I had ordered to make longies for Kairi, but she's using the potty now so Gavin gets them instead!

After that I will be attempting to make Mike's Venom sweater!!! I'll probably do a couple small projects to practice intarsia first.

Finished! The legs look uneven in this picture but they're not. I'm not super happy with the yarn , but it was cheap so I'm not complaining!
Now, on to the Panta! (I knit my first guage swatch!)

OK, I'm almost done with the medium Picky Pants (Patons SWS in natural blue). I just need to graft the crotch and make the i-cord. Here's what it looks like so far.

Next I'll be balling some 100purewool for a Panta! Yay!

Saturday, November 18, 2006

I just cast-on to start another (!!!) pair of Picky Pants (can ya tell I love this pattern? ) I'm using natural blue Patons SWS. I'm not sure if I like it. Its single ply and I think it's going to pill a lot... but it's soft and it's already on my needles so I will see it through ;-)

I got fluff-mail today: Blackberry Ridge wool in charcoal... this is going to be a pair of longies (guess which pattern) for Kairi, since it's cold out and she only has one or two well-fitting covers. It's pretty sturdy, but not stiff. I can't wait to knit with it.

I've been waiting for about three days to get the mailing address for 100purewool so I can send payment for my yarn from them. I ordered two skeins from them which I'm planning to use to make pantas with. I'm making them for Granny for the holidays and I wasn't sure which colorway to use so I got two that reminded me of her and I'll probably give her both. Of course I can't do that if I don't get the address to send the money arrrrrrg.

I have sooo many things on my future project list... my sister Kimmy is pregnant so I want to make her a couple of soakers for her babe, plus a pair of Fetchings (from knitty) for myself and of course the adapted Skully I've been promising Mike for like two years now. Plus more soakers for the kiddos :-D Oh, and something for Kairi's American Girl doll. Yikes! What am I doing? I should be knitting, not typing!

I finally finished my fourth pair of longies (which makes soaker #5). I had a heck of a time finding time to graft the crotch (must concentrate!) but now all that is left is the drawstring. I'll try to post pictures of my finished works tomorrow :) Next up? Gonna try a soaker for Gavin (who is getting HUGE) our of Patons SWS...not quite the ideal yarn to work with, but they're soft and were 2/$10 at Michaels which is great when we're on such a tight budget. I'm crossing my fingers for some yummy yarns for Yule, goodness knows Mike has seen me drooling over the yarn at Irish Baby Knits and Blackberry Ridge enough times! Maybe I can scrounge some money together to get some before then, Kairi has outgrown all of her diaper covers except one or two (you try getting a size18months Nikky on a 35lb toddler! not fun.) and she's not ready for big girl panties away from home.

I'm also really wanting to knit a Panta for Granny, she'd LOVE it... she's always wearing these thread-bare bandanas on her head and she's always cold (at 79 years old and on blood-thinners, I can understand being cold a lot) so I know she would really appreciate it. Mike... yea I don't think I'll have time/money to knit him anything until after the holidays, but he doesn't mind... he's patiently waiting the sweater I've been promising him for two years now. Gotta learn intarsia first lol

One day I will knit something for myself. Goddess knows I've seen quite a few patterns I absolutely love! Like...

Someday...

I have a love/hate relationship with bamboo yarn. I love it because it's soo smooth and silky and soft and pretty, but it is a pain in the behind to knit with... but that said, I made a pretty hat for the baby with it and I'm making a second one for Kairi out of the same bamboo... so I'm glutten for punishment.
